Puppet Justice

So after my last post you might get the idea that I have a thing for Puppets…

and your right!

I picked up Puppet Wars when it first came out and through no fault of my own it ended up being pushed to the back of the cupboard instead of being played since when everyone would get together we would prefer to play Malifaux rather than anything else.

So I decided to repurpose my Puppet Wars figures into some crews.

Also with the new edition of Puppet Wars I managed to pick up a heap of the Expansions from the Combat Company to clear them out of any left over stock.

So, I started off with my first love Lady Justice who for some reason doesn’t like having a non blurry shot of her and since this was originally a 1.5 crew there was the good old Henchman option of Lucius (Thanks have to go to Weird Sketch for getting me one) who now can be an alternative master.

I used Secret Weapon Trench bases for the crew with the idea being that the sandbags are pillows, the corrugated iron walls are corrugated cardboard and the snow effects is the stuffing that is flying around due to the war that’s going on. Also with those bases there was also some wood planking on them which can be the floor of Zoraida’s hut.

So next we have the Henchman which like his master doesn’t like to have photos taken of him and moves at the last moment… I will try to get better ones once I have a decent light tent.

Again we have the Corrugated Cardboard (Pink this time) for him to use as cover.

And again we step down the food chain (stuffing chain?) to the Enforcers.

First up we have the newest edition, The Lone Marshal. He was created by getting one of my many Death Marshals, some accessories from the Orphanage Accessories, a Gun Barrel from an old figure that hasn’t been painted in over 20 years, coffee stirrers and green stuff. I had envisaged him sitting on top of a mountain watching what was happening on the battlefield before making his move and so with the overall idea of fighting in Zoraida’s Hut before she gets home the closest I could get to a mountain was a box that had been knocked over.

He was one of my favourates to build and paint!

Next up we have 2 Executioners since you can take 2 now… The one in brown unfortunately isn’t showing the bullet shell on his base which was painted up as a pink crayon. Also we have a return of the corrugated cardboard.

I still have to used these guys in a game but it’s going to be interesting since I was always a fan of them but they have always had a speed issue.

Next is the only Ortega that I have in puppet form. He’s the elusive Nino who again doesn’t like being photographed and moves when I’m taking the shot. I had to make the button on the end of the gun as bright as I could since I figured it was a button… and it’s not often I get to use colours like that.

Also the dice on the base are some actual dice I had been given too many years ago which never were used because I didn’t want to loose them. I don’t know why I felt the need to paint the dice as well but they did fit in better after they were painted compared to the raw plastic look.

So the next thing we needed was a Totem for the good lady…

This is where I came up with the next issue… There wasn’t one.. so what I did was found one of the multiple Austringers I had and took off his hat, added some thread around each of the arms and attached 2 buttons to them and with some green stuff added the top of his head.

I did coat the thread in superglue so it would dry solid and not swing around which gives it a great effect!

Now we’re down to the rank and file of the crew…

First up, since it’s Lady Justice we need some Death Marshals….

Now I can see you saying “Why is there a pink one?” Well there is a reason for that. If you don’t have the original Puppet Wars then you might have missed the story that goes through it. In that story there is a Death Marshal who keeps stealing the Puppet Nurses shoes… Well that is him. After reading the story I just knew I needed a pink Death Marshal. Also with that one you can see that I used a little green stuff to hang the “doctors bag” from his shoulders.

And if you can’t tell the red explosion at his feet was to represent where someone fell into some Plasticine.

And what do you want more than Death Marshals… No not Wicked Dolls… Here are my 2 Witchling Stalkers.

I painted them to match one another but the difference is the button eyes. If I can get another I might have to look at posing one differently.

So these next 2 aren’t Guild Autopsies but my Guild Guard.

Great little figures that I couldn’t resist using.

And what’s a Guild without Austringers…

Out of the 2 I do prefer the red one but for one of their pivotal roles they have been used in a game for was to take out the other when throwing toy birds into melee… At least they can deny kills!

2013-11-25 12.06.59

These guys haven’t been used yet and I’m still wanting to get 1 more at least so I can have a pack of them but they were one of the hardest figures to get my hands on I do need to name them so any ideas would be great if left in the comments.

2013-11-25 12.07.54

Ok, I know these aren’t Wyrd Figures but I won these 2 from TOR Gaming and how could you go past using then for some Guild Riflemen… I’m tempted to get some others of this line to fill in some more of my Puppet Guild if I choose to keep expanding them

2013-11-25 12.03.54

So I hope you liked what I have done with the Puppet Guild and I have buttons on 30mm bases for scheme markers and also have cotton wool on 30mm bases for corpse counters.

Let me know what you think!
